THERE IS NO BOARD CERTIFICATION IN PHLEBOLOGY!

The American College of Phlebology now offers an internal board certification for doctors who have taken and passed their examination which is an excellent indication of a clinician's academic training.

Just because a doctor is board-certified in plastic surgery or dermatology or even vascular surgery doesn't necesarily mean they will be the best to treat your spider veins and varicose veins non-surgically (medically). A doctor needs extra training in the field of Phlebology to learn the techniques needed to evaluate your vein problem. And a doctor needs the right training and experience to offer an effective safe treatment using the various non-surgical methods to treat vein disease.

While most patients prefer to go to a doctor for their evaluation and treatment, the reality is that there are many well trained and experienced nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician's assistants that can provide safe and effective treatment under a  vein doctor's supervision.

Most non-physician clinicians can treat your spider veins, but these clinicians will also always have a supervising doctor as required by the laws of your state.

While most patients who present with spider vein disease should be thoroughly evaluated by physical exam and ultrasound, not everyone with spider veins needs an ultrasound. Your doctor can guide you as to why you may need an ultrasound.
